News from ... your GREENE COUNTY DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE

  • Greene County Commissioner Dave Coder was elected President of the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania at the organization's annual conference August 5-8 in York County.

"This is an honor to serve my colleagues across the state," Coder said. "The association serves to strengthen the ability of Pennsylvania's counties to govern their own affairs and improve the well-being and quality of life for their constituents," said Coder. "To this end, the association effects the achievement of favorable state legislation, programs and policies, and provides appropriate programs and services to member counties. As a leader of this association, I can make a stronger voice for our county and all the counties in Harrisburg, Washington and all of Pennsylvania."

  • STOP THE TOWERS ~~ Allegheny Power plans to run a massive 240 mile 500 kilovolt power line through our communities in Washington and Greene Counties in Pennsylvania, across northern West Virginia and into northern Virginia. The transmission towers could be up to 160 feet tall and the rights of way could be 200 feet wide. The lines will be engineered to be capable of carrying 765 kilovolts, so that Allegheny Power could eventually upgrade to that voltage.
    • Rep. Bill DeWeese is going to Washington, D.C. to testify on behalf or the "Stop the Towers" outreach. Local efforts to stop the high voltage Trans-Allegheny Interstate Line from passing through our region of the state have helped Bill secure an invitation to testify before a congressional oversight committee next week. He will be testifying at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25, before the Subcommittee on Domestic Policy for the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, which is examining new federal authority for electric transmission power line siting. Bill says he will make certain this panel knows that the potential negative health impact on residents and damage to our community's quality-of-life, not to mention the increase to our electricity bills with no benefit to us, clearly outweigh Allegheny Energy's desire to satisfy the need for energy in other parts of the country.
    • Several hundred of your neighbors have already signed Bill's online petition (Click here to join them).
